About Us

On a Monday night in November 2007, Andy met his friends Katie and James for drinks at the Independent in Uptown. Katie brought her coworker Lia along. (Lia had her eyes on James.) Andy remembers immediately noticing Lia's laugh and fun energy (but doesn't remember shaking hands with her over the table); Lia didn't realize Andy was flirting with her until the end of the night, when Andy walked her home (which is probably for the best given Andy's lack of game). Andy asked Lia out on a date later that week, they ate burgers at The Bulldog and had drinks at Nye's, and the rest is history.

Andy grew up outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and went to college at Carleton, where he ran Cross Country and Track and majored in History. After college, Andy attended law school at the University of Chicago, where this guy taught him Constitutional Law, and left the Midwest to practice law in Washington D.C. After a year-and-a-half out there, he moved to Minneapolis; a year-and-a-half after that, he decided law wasn't for him, and now works as a product manager at a health care company.  Andy spends more time than Lia would like watching Twins, Brewers, and Packers games and monitoring his fantasy sports teams. He seeks out live music whenever he gets the chance and has been recently fixated on amassing a collection of sweet-sounding vinyl. He also runs marathons, enjoys hoppy beer and loves bacon.

Lia grew up in Austin, Minnesota, home of the world-famous Spam Museum.  She won the Most School Spirit and Most Outgoing awards her senior year of high school -- victories that propelled her to Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in communications, minored in Spanish and played on the school's club soccer team. Lia loved the Ithaca winters so much that she spent two spring semesters abroad, one in Seville, Spain and one in Kenya, honing her Spanish and Swahili skills and feeding her love of travel.  After graduating, she  took a job as a public relations associate at an ad agency in Minneapolis, where she still works today. Lia also likes to run (she and Andy will both be running the Boston Marathon this spring) and enjoys photography, traveling and delicious food.

Sealing the Deal.  In the spring of 2009, Lia took a little "life hiatus" and headed south to Argentina to to spend six months volunteering as an English teacher in Buenos Aires. Andy immediately began formulating proposal plans (apparently distance does make the heart grow fonder) and after discarding a number of ham-fisted schemes involving him actually bringing an engagement ring to South America, he settled on surprising her with a proposal when she returned to Minneapolis.

Unawares, Lia spent her free time sharpening her Spanish, buying a closetful of scarves at weekend markets, familiarizing herself with the Malbec grape and renewing her Visa in Uruguay. Andy met Lia in Buenos Aires on Thanksgiving and after a couple weeks of travel in Patagonia, they returned to the states together. Upon entering their condo, Lia was greeted with rose petals, a ring and Andy on one knee. Obviously, Lia said yes.

And here we are.
